WHITE POINT GARDENS

(The Battery)

This picture of the towering oaks at White Point Gardens was taken by Diane Yale-Peabody of Amherst, Ohio.

One of the most scenic points of all Historic Charleston.  Just imagine for a minute that you are standing at the Battery/White Point Gardens, staring out at sea towards Fort Sumter, then turn around and look at the magnificent mansions along South Battery Drive, and thinking that over 200 years ago you might have been standing, sitting, and/or watching the Civil War beginning literally in your own front yard!  And these homes are still standing today!  The gazebo at the Battery is a beautiful wedding destination, it is not uncommon to watch 3,4,5 Brides pass through White Point Gardens on a sunny summer day.

Did you know that a whole pirate crew was hung at the Battery?

From the farthest point at the seawall you can see Ft Sumter, Ft Moultrie, Ft Johnson, Patriots Point, Sullivan’s Island Light House, Morris Island Light House, and a very very good day you can see Bermuda, just joking and keeping you on your toes!!
